Learn More About Hypnotherapy
“Keep your face always toward the sunshine and shadows will fall behind you” – Walt Whitman
Initial consultation:
Your hypnotherapy journey begins with a chat about what you want to achieve from the treatment and how I might be able to help you reach those goals. I’ll explain how hypnotherapy and the subconscious works, and we’ll identify what current thought processes and belief systems you have in place that are getting in your way. We will end the session with some deeply relaxing hypnosis so you can leave feeling calm and refreshed.
Hypnosis can be described as a mental massage. The deep relaxation causes a change in your state of awareness. You are not asleep, in fact your mind becomes more focused and open to new possibilities and ideas. Rest assured that hypnosis is a collaborative process and you’ll only go along with something that you’re happy to go along with. Hypnosis isn’t about mind control. All you’ll feel is beautifully relaxed. Some people find their mind will wander and they stop paying attention to what I’m saying, and others are more inquisitive and happier to follow every word. There is no right or wrong way to experience hypnosis, just as long as you remain open to the possibilities.
At the end of the session, you will have a better understanding of how your brain works, why it causes you to think, feel and behave in the way you do and what we can do to help you create positive change. You will also receive a hypnosis download to listen to between sessions. Following this session I will create a bespoke plan which we will get started with in our next session.
Please allow up to one hour for the initial session.
Subsequent sessions:
In subsequent sessions, we will begin by discussing what positive changes you’ve noticed since our last session and what else needs to happen for you to achieve your treatment goals. Psychotherapy and coaching will help you identify what steps you can take to help move you forward, and then I will guide you into that lovely relaxing hypnosis you experienced in the consultation to consolidate what we have discussed and access your inner resources to solve your problem. Some sessions may also involve elements of NLP, CBT and EFT. There is no one way that I work. Your treatment plan will be as unique as you are.
As we’re inviting the subconscious to start seeing things from an alternative perspective, it’s common for ideas and solutions to present themselves to you in between sessions, often at the most unexpected times. The truth is that your subconscious already knows how to resolve your issue, we just need to help you unlock the solution.
Please allow up to 50 minutes for these sessions.
I am firmly against using hypnosis to suppress a problem using positive suggestions alone, as this is often just a temporary fix and will result in the problem coming back or manifesting in a different way. Positive suggestions have their place but like a weed, if we don’t pull it from the roots then the problem will grow back. The huge advancements in research around the brain and neuroscience and proven however that we do not need to go back and delve into the past. The brain can rewire itself by focusing on the future you want. To hardwire the positive changes for long-lasting results I often work with people over 6-8 sessions. Simple phobias can usually be treated in three sessions. For smoking, please click here.

I will discuss with you beforehand a plan of action, but rest assured that hypnosis is a wonderfully safe treatment and you remain in control at all times. Should we lose connection, your subconscious will invite you back to full wakefulness and I will contact you via phone, text or email to reconnect.
It is best to use a tablet, laptop or computer for your online therapy appointment rather than a smartphone – something that won’t require you to hold it. You will need a webcam and microphone – built in ones are fine.
It is not necessary to create the perfect ambient, peaceful setting for your online hypnotherapy session. It would be beneficial, however, to find a room with minimal disturbance from other household members and pets, and to ensure you have turned off your mobile and all apps on your computer.
Find somewhere you can comfortably sit down and where I will be able to see you clearly via your computer’s camera. You need to be visible and comfortable.
